Dibyendu Palit was an Indian writer of Bengali poetry, short stories, and novels. In 1955, his first story, Chandapatan, was published. Dibyendu Palit, born in Bhagalpur in Bihar, British India, was the second oldest son of the Palit Family. Unfortunately, he lost his father at a very young age, and he took on the responsibility of caring for his family. His difficult days were a source of inspiration for many of his writings. He later did a Masters in Comparative Literature at the University of Jadavpur. His son, Amitendu Palit, is a senior IES official and economist. Palit lived in Gariahat in Kolkata.

His work has been translated into English and major Indian languages. Mr. Palit is also a well-known journalist and film and drama commentator. Before, that he had a successful career in advertising and marketing and held senior positions at Clarion-McCann Advertising Services, The Statesman, etc.
In 1992, he was invited to speak at Rabindranath Tagore's symposium in Darmstadt, Germany, at a ceremony held in India. That same year he visited the UK and Germany at the invitation of the Governments of various countries. He also visited France, Denmark, the Netherlands, and a few other European countries and traveled to the U.S.A. was invited in 1995. He visited Bangladesh in 1996 during the Indian Army.
He spoke at the SAARC international press conference organized by the ICCR and Sahitya Akademi in October 1992. In 1999 he visited several Italian cities such as Venice, Rome, Naples, etc. as a member of the Indian literary team sponsored by Sahitya Akademi and visited China in 2004. Mr. Palit holds a Post Graduate in Comparative Literature (1961) from Jadavpur University.
