Born in Kolkata, British India, as Asit Baran Mukherjee, aka Kalo, he was an Indian film actor, a singer, and a theater personality. After learning Tabla from Gyanprakash Ghosh, he joined Akashbani Kolkata as a Tabla player. He caught the attention of Pahari Sanyal, an actor, while performing in the All India Radio Music Conference. After that day, he was regularly called to sing at various music functions in Kolkata. For his career in acting, he first acted in a film called Pratishruti in 1941. He then started performing as a actor-cum-singer in several super-hit films in Bengali and Hindi films and eventually became a bright star of the New Theatres. He was on the silver screen for almost four decades after this and got roles in many Bengali and Hindi films. He bid farewell to the world on 27th November 1984.
