Pracheta Gupta is a well-known Bengali writer and journalist. He was born in 1962 in Kolkata. He grew up in Bangur Avenue, attended Bangor Boys School, and began writing at a young age. His first story was published when he was 12 years old in Anandamela, a Bengali magazine for children. After graduating from Scottish Church College in Kolkata, Gupta began his writing career. In 2004, he published his first novel, Aamar Ja Achhe, in Anandalok magazine. The same year, he published his first children's novel, Laal Rong-er Churi, in Anandamela. Several films have adapted Gupta's literary works, which have gained widespread recognition. Gupta has authored several notable works, including Nil Alor Phul, Kothao Noy Aamar Ja Achhe, Aschorjo Pukur, Kanchangorer Kokil Sir, Jabajjiban, Deri Hoye Gechhe, Teen Number Chithi, Jadabbabu Mithya Bolen Na Shit Khub Dure Noy, and Pracheta Guptar Galpo. He has also written plays for various theater groups, including Uhini Kolkata, Shipt Sangha, and Abhash. Throughout his career, Gupta has been the recipient of several prestigious awards.

Some of these include the Sutapa Roychowdhury Smarak Puraskar from the Bangla Academy in 2007, the Shailajananda Smjek Samman in 2009, the Sera Sahityik Puraskar from Akash Bangla in 2009, the Ashapuma Devi Birth Centinary Literature Award in 2009, the Gajendra Kumar Mitra O Sumathanath Ghosh Smarak Samman in 2010, the Barna Parichay Sharad Sahitya Samman in 2010, and the Most Promising Writer Award from the Publishers and Bookseller's Guild in 2011. Gupta is married to Mitra Gupta, and they have a single child named Samudra Gupta. He continues to write for Unish-Kuri and remains a figure in Bengali literature.
