Vijay Tendulkar

Vijay Tendulkar was born on 6th January 1928 in Mumbai. His full name was Vijay Dhondopant Tendulkar. He was one of the leading playwriter, Television writer, journalist, and essayist. He was a well-known personality in the Marathi industry. His father was a clerk and ran a small business. Vijay was very keen to take up writing and felt inspired to write plays. His first wrote story was at the age of 6. At the age of 14, he participated in the 1942 Indian freedom movement and left his studies. His writings created a huge impact on the modern Marathi theatre in the 1950s. his play named Gidhade proved a turning point in his life. His short stories like Die Panne, Santata! Court Calu Ahe is one of the best works with his unique writing style. Afterward, they get presented as a movie in the industry.

Vijay died in Pune on 19th may 2008 battling with the disease of myasthenia gravis. His son and wife had died in 2001 after that his daughter Priya died in 2002 who was suffering from breast cancer. Most of the writings were very based on real-life situations, society, and political issues. His many of the plays depict a bad image of Hindu social groups. He has written 27 full-length plays, 25 one-act plays. His plays have been translated and performed in many other Indian languages.

He was also one of the strongest political voices of those times. He won many awards in his lifetime like state government awards in 1969 and 1972, Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar in 1999.
