Shyamanand Jalan is a Bengali director and screenwriter. He is best known for his work on Ek Akasher Niche's television series (1998-99), for which he won the National Film Award for Best Direction. Jalan has also directed the films Bagh Bahadur (1989), Dahan (1998), and Shunyo Awnko (2000).

Shyamanand Jalan was a Bengali film director known for his movies like Komal Gandhar and Nimai Sanyasi. He was born in 1934, in a village called Jirania, in the district of Thiruvananthapuram, in the state of Kerala. His father was a farmer, and his mother was a homemaker. He did his schooling at a local school in his village and later studied at the Government College of Thiruvananthapuram. After completing his studies, he started working as a journalist with a local newspaper. He later moved to Kolkata, where he began working as a film critic. During this time, he came in contact with the Bengali film industry. He made his debut as a film director with the film Komal Gandhar in 1961.

The film was a huge success, making him a leading director in the Bengali film industry. His other notable films include Nimai Sanyasi, Jugantar, and Ekti Raat. He also received the National Film Award for Best Direction for his film Komal Gandhar. Shyamanand Jalan passed away in the year 2002 at the age of 78.
