Tenali Rama was one of the Ashtaduggajas, meaning- one of the eight honorable poets, in the court of emperor Krishnadevaraya.

The series revolves around the life of Tenali Rama, presenting many of his tales where he used his intelligence to get things done in his favor. In the show, Rama Krishna is shown to be a poor Brahmin living in the village Tenali. The story begins when Rama’s wedding preparations are being done, as he’s to be married to Sharada. Not willing to get married, Rama plans to run away from the wedding and is later found sitting under a tree. Even though he is in love with the young girl Sharada, he doesn’t wish to get married so soon. Rama’s friend Gundappa wakes him up to take him to his wedding.

The story goes through inevitable ups and downs throughout the show. Tahthacharya, the royal priest of Vijayanagar, believes that Rama, had insulted him and so he challenges Rama to enter the city. Clever Rama, uses his wit and intelligence to tackle the situation. Another twist occurs when Gundappa's father faces crisis because his land is not being ploughed. The hero of the story, Rama comes into the picture and tricks the villagers into believing that the land contains a treasure full of gold coins within it. Overnight, the entire the entire population of the city dig up Gundappa's father's field. He acts as a savior again by using his cleverness.

One fine day, a Sadhu advices Rama to visit a nearby temple and chant Kaali Mata’s name a thousand times, so that he could become successful in life. After doing what the Sadhu suggests, Rama receives Mata’s blessings and finally marries Sharada. From this point onwards, we delve into the life is Rama as he goes on a journey of becoming popular and respected because of his smartness. He leaves for Vijayanagar with his newly married wife. Soon, he becomes the Royal Advisor and one of the famous Ashtadiggajas Pandit Ramakrishna in Krishnadevaraya's court. Pretty soon he becomes close to the king and by using his wit, he solves the problems that are addressed in the court.
