Abhimanyu Singh is a popular Indian film and television actor who works extensively in the Bollywood industry. He was born in Patna, Bihar, India, and later moved to Delhi to attend college. He worked in some school dramas during college, until one day, he moved to Mumbai to pursue his acting career. The first two months of his stay in Mumbai was really tough for the actor, since he couldn’t get any decent roles and had to wait for the producers for long hours just to cast him in any good films. He took his chances and decided to do theatre. He joined the group, Ansh, headed by
Makarand Deshpande, who became his acting guru. One day, he got a call from his co-actor, Manoj Bajpai, and told him that he will be casted in the Hindi supernatural thriller film, ‘Aks’, which stars
Amitabh Bachchan in 2001. This film became his debut film as an actor.
Later, he started doing films like ‘
Lakshya’, in 2004, along with Konte Kurrallu, ‘
Dhol’, and It’s
Breaking News, in 2007. In 2008, he did the film, ‘
Jannat’, but these films did nothing for his career. He earned popularity after donning the role of Rananjay Singh ‘Ransa’, a prince who neglected the beliefs of his father in the political crime drama film, ‘
Gulaal’. His performance received positive responses and he also earned nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the IIFA Awards. He also got the Best Breakthrough Performance at the
Stardust Awards. He has done films like
Rakta Charitra, Accident on Hill Road, and The Film Emotional Atyachar. Later, he did more films, which helped him in becoming a more established actor.
In 2013, he played the role of Meghji, the brother of Ram (played by
Ranveer Singh), and the head of Rajadi, in the box office romantic drama film, Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela. He was starred as Chillam Pehlwan in the Bollywood film,
Global Baba. This film, which was released in December 2014, is all about the life of Chillam who has a criminal background, but became a self-proclaimed baba. He has thousands of devotees who come to him and believe that he can do something for all of them.
In 1999, he bagged a role in one of the episodes of the television series, Star Bestsellers, opposite Farooque Shaikh. In 2012, he was starred in the television drama series,
Upanishad Ganga, where he played 33 different characters such as Lord Krishna, Narendra, Lord Indra, Sutradhar and more.
He got married to actress, Sargam Singh, in 2008, and they have been blessed with two kids namely, Zulu and Amelie.
