Starting his career as a stage performer, and then earning his place in both movie and television industry. Shailesh Datar, in his early life, lived in Nagpur, Maharashtra and after graduating, started acting in Marathi theater and television. He is mostly known by the name of Moropant Tambe, a the role that he played in a historical TV-show named: Jhansi Ki Rani (2009-2011), aired on Zee Tv, in which he played the role of Rani Lakshmibai’s father, who was hanged by the order of East India Company. He has been cast in many other tv-shows such as Bandhan Saat Janamon Ka (2008-2009), and Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev (2012), where he played the character of a sage named Narada. People see Shailesh Datar as a talented and well-established actor, but according to him it was not easy, not easy at all. In fact, the inclusion of Tulsidas in the serial made it even more engrossing.  This talented actor doesn’t go with the preconceived notion that regional actors are not recognized in the mainstream industry. He feels that it’s our perception that counts. He had endeavored in Hindi serials, and that turned out to be fruitful for him, as he admits.  Shailesh feels that he would rather work in different roles than being typecast as a “too good for words”     protagonist role. After all, he opines that by playing a character artist he can shine in the industry.
