The serial revolves around a young woman named Bharti and the drama after her marriage.

Bharti's father, Rupesh Chauhan, a wealthy man, faces a problem searching for the perfect groom for his daughter, who appears short in height for her age. During her friend Neelam's marriage, Bharti gets saved from a crowd of men by a young man, Murli. Murli is from a poor background but has a good heart. Bharti's father finds this an excellent redeeming quality, and after seeing how Murli saved Bharti, he thinks that Murli might be a good match for his daughter. He decides to approach Bhansi Laal, father of Murli, and propose the wedding. After going to the Laal family house to invite them over for a function, Rupesh Chauhan blurts out his proposal, leaving everyone shocked and enraged. Murli refuses to marry Bharti and leaves, resulting in Rupesh being disappointed. However, after a series of events, the Laal family faces many problems for their poverty and the upcoming marriage of Veena, Murli's younger sister. Murli's sister-in-law Gaushala assesses the whole situation, forces Murli to marry Bharti, considering that she is from a wealthy background and might be able to help with the money shortage.

After much consideration and reluctance, Murli agrees to the proposal. Things take a turn after the wedding. Veena was about to marry Prakash, who happens to be a friend of Mridang; however, Bharti realizes that Prakash is not all who seems to be and is not the right person for Veena. She tries to warn the others, but in vain, and as a last resort, she causes a scene at the wedding, which ultimately leads to the marriage being called off. This leads the whole family to be irked with Bharti, and hence many problems arise. Unable to go through more fights and hatred Bharti ultimately asks for a divorce. How Prakash's true self comes out after this and how Murli realizes where his heart truly resides and whether Bharti and Murli ever reunite or not are what constitutes the rest of the episodes.
