Farida Jalal were star attractions in the event. Films like ‘
Lamhe’, ‘Hum’, ‘Sadak’, ’Saudagar’ received maximum nominations. Yash Chopra’s film ‘Lamhe’ had won the award for best film. However, it was not Yash Chopra who won the best director, but Subhash Ghai received the best director for the film ‘Saudagar’.
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan had won the best actor award for the movie ‘Hum’ and actress Sridevi had won the best actress award for her superlative performance in ‘Lamhe’. Actress Farida Jalal had taken the 'best-supporting-actress' trophy for her performance in Raj Kapoor’s film ‘
Danny Denzongpa won the best supporting actor trophy for the movie‘Sanam Bewafa’. Anupam Kher won best comedian actor for ‘Lamhe’.
Honey Irani won the best story writer award and Rahi Masoom Raza won the best dialogue writer award for the film ‘Lamhe’. It was sad that Gulzar’s much critically acclaimed film ‘Lekin’ did not take home any awards.
However, ’Lekin’ got the best lyricist award for Gulzar for his song ‘Yaara Seeli Seeli’. Film ‘Lekin’ was produced by
Lata Mangeshkar. Nadeem-Shravan won the best music director award for the film '
Kumar Sanu won his second trophy for best male playback singer for song ‘Mera Dil Bhi’ for film ‘Saajan’. Singer Anuradha Paudwal won the best female playback singer award for her song ‘Dil Hai Ke’ for the film ‘
Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin’.
Newcomer Ajay Devgan won the best debut award for the film ‘
Phool Aur Kaante’.
Raveena Tandon won the 'Lux new Face of the year' award for the film ‘Patthar Ke Phool’. Radhu Karmakar won the best cinematographer award for his excellent camera work for the film 'Heena'. Waman Bhonsle and Gurudutt Shirali won best editor work for their work in the film ‘Saudagar’.
Chinni Prakash had won the best choreographer award for song ‘Jumma Chumma De De’. K. Verman Shetty had won the best art director award for the film ‘Hum’. S.C. Bhambri won the best sound design award for the film’ Patthar Ke Insaan’. Arun Kaul’s film ‘Diksha’ had won him the best Critics Filmfare award.
