Anuradha Paudwal is a renowned Bollywood playback singer who dominated the industry for a short period but had a shining career for over three decades in Indian film industry having sung in almost all Indian languages. But she is most popular as a singer in Marathi, Kannada and Hindi films followed by Bengali films too. The singer had no formal training but used to practice many hours listening to Lata Mangeshkar’s songs always. Anuradha got her first break in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s film ‘ Abhimaan’(1973) by singing a Sanskrit sloka for music composer S.D. Burman. In the same year, she made her debut in singing career in Marathi with the film ‘Yashoda’ and in 1974, she recorded non-film Marathi songs ‘bhav geeten’ that became very popular. She got her first few Bollywood assignment in movies named 'Kalicharan’, ‘Udhar Ka Sindoor’, ‘Dooriyaan’ etc.

Although Anuradha has sung for various composers like Rajesh Roshan, Kalyanji Anandji, Usha Khanna, Jaidev, Bappi Lahiri, R.D. Burman, etc. her association with Laxmikant-Pyarelal proved a milestone in her career; she sang for films like ‘Hero,' Meri Jung,'’Ram Lakhan,' etc. Their association soon ended, and she preferred singing for new composers like Anand-Milind, Nadeem-Shravan, Jatin-Lalit, A. R. Rahman, Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen, Anu Malik, etc.

Anuradha was at the peak of her career when she sang for films like ‘Aashiqui,' ‘Beta,' ‘Dil,' ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin’ and ‘Saajan.' She was the ultimate voice then for Madhuri Dixit in all her films. The film industry commented that another Lata Mangeshkar had arrived after she sang for films like ‘Aashiqui.' But as she concentrated singing exclusively for "T-Series," for devotional songs and "cover-version" albums, it slowly affected her career. She also made many blunders in her singing career by dubbing songs of Lata Mangeshkar and Alka Yagnik, which created a rift between the music composers and singers. Later, she sang old melody songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar and created personal albums that received a poor response. This singer also sang with Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, K. J. Yesudas and S. P. Balasubrahmanyam.

Anuradha won Filmfare Award five times for best female playback singer, and she was also a recipient of the National Film Award too for a Marathi song. She is married to Arun Paudwal, who was an assistant to music composer S.D. Burman and has a daughter named Kavita Paudwal, who is a singer, and a son, Aditya Paudwal. The singer was born on October 27, 1952, in Kanwar.

But when Asha heard the song, she gave full credit to the young singer and had requested Anu Malik to retain the song in the film as rendered by Anupama Deshpande; that is how Anupama Deshpande’s first film song mesmerized the industry.
