Sadak is an Indian television serial. It aired on DD National channel. The serial premiered in the late 90s. The story revolves around a greedy man, Rambharose, who tries to live a comfortable life without spending money. He was a government officer who lost his job for taking bribes. Now, he stays at home and tries to take advantage of situations. There is a busy road near his house. He sees it as an opportunity and finds ways to earn money. Once two vehicles collided and the drivers started fighting, Rambharose went and solved the matter and earned money by making them fools. He decided to do something big and earn a lot of money at one time. He spread fake news about road extensions in the locality. He told his friends to send a message to all the shops that the shops may be closed by the government to extend the roads.

All the shopkeepers got scared and came to him. Rambharose told everyone about his contacts with municipal officers and could help the shopkeepers, but the truth was the opposite. He went to the officer as a reporter to take an interview. During the interview, Rambharose gathered more information about the road. He then returned and told everyone that the work was in progress. To prevent this notice, they had to deposit 50,000 rupees. The innocent shopkeeper agreed to him and trusted his words. After he gained the trust of all the shopkeepers, he started using them for his benefit.

The brother-in-law of Rambharose, disguised as a food inspector, raided a sweet shop. He forcefully took canisters of Ghee and sweets. He told the shopkeeper the food would go through quality check tests. One day, the shopkeeper went to Rambharose’s house and saw his canisters of Ghee. Rambharose assured him that he got them back from the food inspector to save him from the trouble. The shopkeeper thanked him and gave three canisters of Ghee to him as a gift.

Rambharose got his house painted by playing such tricks on other shopkeepers. He gained so much popularity that he became the head of the shopkeeper committee. His wife became the head of the female group. Later, the shopkeepers encouraged him to go to the elections. They supported Rambharose and spent money for his win. Eventually, Rambharose won the election and became a politician. It is a short serial and has only 10-12 episodes. The comic element of the serial is the reason behind its popularity.
