Plot
Petition Pethuraj resides in Ooty with his wife and daughter Venba. Pethuraj is a social enthusiast. He files petitions in the court and gets some petty issues corrected. Venba is an advocate, who is yet to make her debut in the court. To everyone’s surprise, Venba appears in her first case, which was already closed before 15 years. She reopens the case of Sakthi Jothi, who was said to be encountered by the cops in a murder case. While arguing in favor of Sakthi Jothi, to find out the truth behind her encounter, Venba had to face a lot of issues. Varadharajan, a big shot, was brought before justice. Who is Varadharajan? Was he useful to the case? Did Venba complete her first case successfully? Watch the film to know the rest.
Star Performance
Jyothika has done a great job. She dubbed her voice and succeeded in her attempt. Her courtroom terms are perfect and we can expect Jyothika dub for her in her upcoming films too. Tears roll out during the emotional scenes and that’s the success of a real artist. Her body language and expressions are fantastic. Bhagyaraj and Parthiepan are the important characters in the film. They did their jobs correctly, as ever. Pratap fits well in the honest judge role and Thyagarajan is okay. Pandiarajan didn’t have any big dialogues. Vinodhini Vaidhyanathan is so natural as ever. Her voice is a greatest gift.
Analysis
Ponmagal Vandhal is a sensitive film that had been dealt with very carefully by Fredrick. The dialogues are neat. The star selection is perfect and similarly, we should appreciate Jyothika for choosing such a role. Her voice modulation is excellent. Although there are a lot of twists and turns in the film, the main twist is revealed much earlier and that could’ve been done a bit later. The cinematography is excellent and the music is good. Fredrick doesn’t seem to be a debutant and he has handled the film perfectly. However, a few logical loopholes are there.

Ponmagal Vandhal is a good performance-oriented film and it shows another dimension in Jyothika’s performance. Twists are unveiled at regular intervals and made the audience get deep into the story. Ponmagal Vandhal – definitely a watch worthy film!
