Plot
Sathya and Meera are in love with each other. They decided to get married in their hometown, Pudhukottai. A day before marriage, Meera wanted to see him, so he went to meet her. On the way, he is met with an accident, which also involved a pregnant lady. Her unborn child is killed in the accident. The court announced the verdict that though it is yet to be born, a murder is a murder, and sentenced him with two years of imprisonment. After serving his prison term, Sathya finds out that he is not the reason for the child’s death. To prove himself innocent and find out the reason behind the child’s death, he seeks evidence. Did he get it? The rest of the story speaks about this.
Star Performance
Shane Nigam’s performance is decent. Kalaiyarasan did what was required. The female leads didn’t have anything significant to do.
Analysis
The title made us think that it may be an out-and-out action entertainer. But, it deceives us in that angle. The story is simple. The screenplay, which should have been the backbone of the film, is weak here. Though the performances are neat, the characterization is not shrewd and sharp. Kalaiyarasan’s Durai, who was supposed to be an angry man, loses his character’s essence in the flow. His response has no grip after knowing the person who killed his child. Earlier, during the character introduction, he was shown as an angry man who can’t control his emotions, and does what he feels at that moment. All the characters lack in depth. We don’t feel pity for either of the characters, though they suffer. Sam CS’ BGM is decent. Though there are no usual political clashes and action sequences as far as the title is concerned, the director has just showcased the old revenge.

Verdict
We expected Madraskaaran to be an action film when the title was announced. It is neither an action movie nor an emotional movie. If the screenplay had been penned better, the movie might have reached a wider audience. Madraskaaran – watchable once!
