Plot
Parthiban, aka Parthi and his mother run a food business in North Madras. Shanmugam, an IAS officer, is his regular customer. Parthi turned suspect, as Shanmugam was killed, and his body had Chili powder from Parthi’s shop. Parthi is sent to jail, and Siga, one of the criminals in the prison, controls it. Sunilkumar, the officer from Tihar, is the officer in charge of the prison where Parthi is imprisoned. Kendrick, a Nigerian, is also imprisoned. Due to the turn of events, he dies, and Parthi’s attempt to prove him innocent becomes a question mark. Ismail is the enquiry commission official. While he interrogates several people, each one narrates a story from their perspective. Who is right? Will Parthi prove his innocence? The rest of the film speaks about this.

RJ Balaji tried his best to fit in the character. Selvaraghavan nailed the character well, and his body language and appearance make everyone feel like he is the real Siga. Sharafudheen is brilliant in his role as Sunilkumar. After “

,” he has reentered Kollywood. Karunas’ role has a dual personality; he emotes well and gains appreciation. Natty is good in the given role. Balaji Sakthivel appears in a minimum screen time, yet did a good job. Saniya has nothing significant to do.
Analysis
Sorgavaasal didn’t have a unique story, but the way of narration is different from the usual films of this kind. If we think a bit deeply, we can find traces of Virumandi’s making style. Like Virumandi, in Sorgavaasal, the same situation is narrated from a different perspective. The director managed to engage the audience throughout the film with a gripping screenplay. The film’s biggest plus is the production design. With his excellent art designs, he makes the audience believe that’s what a prison looks like. The cinematography is brilliant. The action choreography is finely designed and nothing appears cinematic. The BGM is too noisy in many places, barring the audience from hearing the dialogue. The stars have performed well, delivering the director’s vision. If the film had started with Parthi’s story, it might have helped him gain more support.
