Keni” is the drama film co-scripted and directed by MA Nishad. Anwar Abdulla and Aju K Narayanan co-scripted the film along with Nishad. The film is a Tamil and Malayalam bilingual. The film is produced by Sajeev PK and Anne Sajeev. The songs' composition is by “M Jayachandran” and the background score is by “Bijibal.” Noushad Sherif cranked the camera and Sreekumar Nair edited the film. After 27 years, “ K J Yesudas” and “ S P Balasubrahmanyam” crooned together a song titled Ayya Sami for Keni. The song was written by Palani Bharathi. Keni star cast includes Jaya Prada, “ Revathi,” “ Archana,” Anu Hasan, Actress Rekha, Parvathy Nambiar, “ R Parthiepan,” “ Nassar,” “ Pasupathy,” MS Bhaskar and Thalaivasal Vijay.

The film focuses on the water issue faced by a village that is located in Tamilnadu and Kerala border. How the central character Indra fights against the water issue is the main plot in the film.

Star Performance

The film has a huge star cast and all the stars have done their roles perfectly, as per directed. Yet, Nassar’s role stays strong than the others. Anu, Revathi, Rekha and MS Bhaskar seem to have a less acting scope. These talented stars should have been given more importance.

Keni is Mollywood director Nishad’s first attempt in a bilingual and this is his debut Tamil film too. Jaya Prada plays the main lead and the film revolves around her. But, her character should have been strongly portrayed. Technically the film is okayish. Songs are good, but the same BGM has been repeated in many places and it bores.

What’s There?

  • Nassar’s character is well designed and it creates good impact
  • Script is impressive
  • Ayya Sami song is one of the main highlights of the film

What’s Not There?

  • Some characters should have been designed stronger
  • Repeated BGM didn’t impress the audiences
  • Execution could have been better

Although the execution is not impressive, we should appreciate Nishad for bringing a good script. Keni is a One-time watch for the script, SPB – Yesudas and the performance of the stars!
