Vijay Sethupathi is one actor who has been giving release after release. His latest venture to hit the screens is Kavan. Now let’s see how this film has turned out to be.

Vijay Sethupathi has some vision about his life and works as a reporter in a TV channel. The manager of the channel,is keener on getting income through sensationalizing and hence joins hands with Bose Venkat, who is a politician. Bose Venkat’s fame has seen a slump after the protests he faced against a specific chemical plant. There happens a cruel twist in the story when Bose Venkat’s people do injustice to Darshana Rajendran. She is a youngster who is against Bose Venkat and leads the protest with her boyfriend Vikranth Santhosh. Vijay Sethupathi exposes the act. What does the channel's boss do here to aggravate the anger of Vijay Sethupathi? What does Vijay Sethupathi do in return? Does he teach a lesson or two to the channel's boss and Bose Venkat (who is also involved in angering him)? Watch the movie to know.

Star Performances

Vijay Sethupathi does his role with conviction. One can empathize with his character. T Rajender, who has created lot of expectations through the trailers, gives a restrained performance. Madonna’s character could have been etched well. Most of the characters in the film add to the significance of the movie. Pandiarajan does a commendable job in the movie. Power Star gives a guest appearance in the movie.

The movie, directed by K V Anand (who had directed films like Ko and Ayan), delves into some relevant issues. One could also get an idea as to how television channels function.

What’s there?

  • The writers of the film, Anand, Kabilan Vairamuthu and Subha have done a great job.
  • There is not unnecessary heroism in Kavan and the emotions are not exaggerated.
  • Hip Hop Thamizha’s music gel well with the movie.

What’s not there?

  • The film, though looks into various contemporary issues, is in dearth of depth.
  • The film could have been edited better.

The writing and the good perfomances of the actors deserve special mention in Kavan.
