Plot

Sethu is a jockey in Chennai, and his father work in the same stable. His dad Vellachamy is a do-gooder who is also a socially responsible person. SKR is a corporate businessman who is into the meat business and exploiting animals. In a series of events, Vellachamy sees his pet horse dying in front of him after it is shot. He gets a cardiac arrest and dies on the spot. Soon, Sethu is driven to a small village in Ramnad. He joins the villagers and fights against the people who are thirsty for power and money. Why did Sethu move to the village? Who is the reason for Vellachamy’s death? All these are explained in the rest of the story.

Star Performance

Sasikumar usually fits well in the village roles. This time he is a Chennai-based Jockey, and he surprises us that he could fit in this role too. Sasikumar’s performance is good both as a jockey and a bull tamer. Parvathy Arun did justice to the given role. Her expressions are good. Samyuktha, Aadukalam Naren, Balaji Sakthivel, and Ammu Abhirami are good in their respective roles. Unfortunately, Redin Kingsley’s comedy didn’t work out. JD Chakravarthy didn’t have anything special to do as an antagonist.

Analysis

Though it is a regular bull-taming story with usual sentiments, the director has executed it well. But, JD Chakravarthy didn’t have a decisive role. His scenes needed to have been written a bit well. The rest of the scenes are good, and the execution is decent too. The combination scenes between Sasikumar and Parvathy are good. The climax scenes and the entry of the bull are impressively shot. The cinematography is good. Imman’s music is quite okay.

Verdict

Kaari is a decent film with good performances and enough action scenes. If you are a fan of Jallikattu and similar genre movies, you would like this!
