Plot
Poomalai, aka Gethu is an excellent batsman in the local cricket team. He is married to Yasodhai and has a daughter with her. Though Yasodhai loves him dearly, she is worried about his irresponsibility. Gethu is a hardcore “Vijayakanth” fan too. As his wife is worried much about his irresponsibility, he plays matches without her knowledge. Anbu is a school student. He loves to bowl, but he was not given a chance due to some casteist players in the team. Even after a few years, Gethu continues to dominate in his team and Anbu, now a grown-up, is still not given enough chance. Once, Anbu comments on Gethu’s batting style to Kaathadi, his friend. When this reached Gethu through one of his friends, he grew angry over Anbu, and from then, their rivalry started. Meanwhile, Anbu falls in love with Durga, who is none other than Gethu’s daughter. What will happen to their love story? Will Gethu approve of their relationship? Will Anbu get a stable place in the cricket team? The rest of the film follows this.
Star Performance
Dinesh has taken a middle-aged role so early. His performance is neat and he has shown difference in two different periods. Harish Kalyan is fantastic in his role as Anbu. Both the stars have made enough effort to make their performance so natural. Their body language, expressions, and dialogue delivery are appreciable. Bala Saravanan, Jenson, Geetha Kailasam, and Kaali Venkat have done a commendable job.
Analysis
It doesn’t look like a debutant has made this film. The screenplay and execution are fantastic. Though there are a few lag in the screenplay in certain places, the director managed to cover it up with the performances of the stars. The relationships are finely shown, especially the relationship between Geetha Kailasam and Swasika’s characters. Though the film has a lot of characters, the director has handled them well with uniqueness. Captain Vijayakanth lives in this film. In many scenes we can feel it is not just the name, but an emotion. The cricket scenes are shot well and create Goosebumps. Though the film is shot on a medium budget, those cricket scenes are shot well and create a good impression on the cinematographer. The BGM gels well with the script. Sean Roldan has made enough effort to make the scenes lively with his music.

Verdict
The sports thriller film has all the essential family elements, sentiments, and love in the right proportion. Lubber Pandhu is definitely a Gethu film for the entire cast and crew. Just go without expectations; you’ll love it!
