Plot
Devaraya and Kaalegowda are the feudal landlords in Bheemanahalli. The farmers suffer a lot from the atrocities of the landlords. Kaatera, the blacksmith, comes as a saviour. When the Land Reforms Act was introduced, the peasants had a sigh of relief. Meanwhile, Kaatera falls in love with Prabhavathi. But, before their marriage, Prabhavathi was killed. Kaatera killed Kaalegowda. Kaatera suspected Devaraya for Prabha’s death and killed him, too. Only then he comes to know that Prabhavathi’s brother is responsible for her death. What will he do now? The rest of the story deals with this.
Star Performance
Darshan appears in an action avatar, once again. Yet, he shines as a good performer, too. Aradhana Ram is a promising debutant. She excels in the given role, especially in the second half. Shruti, Jagapti Babu, Vinod, and Avinash did justice to the given roles.
Analysis
The director tried to explore the casteist society and its customs. He also touched on feudalism and honour killing. The dialogues are okay. The BGM is excellent in the mass scenes and Darshan fans get Goosebumps. The second half has good performances and action scenes. Though the screenplay is not designed so well, the performances of the stars elevate the sequences. However, the duet in the first half is a speed-breaker. The message in the climax appears to be preachy, which may not attract Darshan’s fans. The casting team should be appreciated for choosing the best performers like Shruti, Avinash, and Jagapati Babu in pivotal roles. The heroine, Aradhana, may have a good future in the film industry.

Verdict
Kaatera is an action entertainer with some solid performances. Except for the preachy climax, the film may appeal well to Darshan fans. Kaatera – Watchable once!
