Plot:
Peepli, a small village in Mukhya Pradesh, features in the plot. A poor farmer called Natha Das Manikpuri (

(Nawazuddin Siddiqui), puts his ears in their words and the suicide plan spreads all over the village like a wild forest fire. English news channels and local news channels tag along with Peepli to snatch a live suicide death to telecast in their channel. Natha in Peepli face a chaotic, yet dramatic situation all along. How Natha escapes from all this and what he plans for his death concludes the movie.
Analysis:
Aamir Khan’s production banner adds a new gossip page to this film. The story depicts a new plot with a mission to show us how dirty political parties can get and how much land the news channels can dig to get their news gush like a water fountain. Media TRP and the influence of political parties on common rural people are seen throughout the plot.
Star performances:
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Naseeruddin Shah got side roles in “Peepli Live”. In spite of the side characters, not a single finger was raised to point out their roles in the movie. The movie was a huge hit with a box office collection of above 400 Crores. Omkar Das Manikpuri was a huge hit for the role of Natha. The life struggles of a poor farmer were clearly visible through his eyes.
What’s there?
A new dramatic story with punches of comedy. Poverty of poor village farmers shown at its best. Facts showed on politicians and the Indian media.
What’s not there?
Too much of drama.
Verdict:
It can be a bit too dramatic, but the comedy punches and the great plot makes up for it.
