In the late 90s, Rakesh played in a few telefilms, including Paharon Ke Daman Mein with Arti Puri, Pradeep Hans, and Amrit Kapoor. In 1998, Rakesh played in the film Mahatma, directed by Tanvir Ahmed. He was also a part of the DD serial, Park. He played the role of Vikram, an environmentalist. He founded a theatre group named Rangmanch in 1995. After a few years, the group was inactive, and he restated it with a new name, Meerut Rangmanch, in 2021. Uljhan was their first play after restarting the group. Om Dutt Rajput joined Rakesh in re-establishing Rangmanch. Surendar Sharma, Prabhu Dhayal, Seema Samar, and Vishal Gaur are the artists of Meerut Rangmanch.
