No Sequel For ‘Vidaamuyarchi?’

Looks like the troubles for Kollywood are far from over!

Sadly, this is not the case. According to the recent reports, even though the movie’s ending promised the hint of a sequel, it won’t happen. This was because despite all the efforts, Magizh Thirumaneni’s ‘Vidaamuyarchi’, loosely based on the Hollywood film ‘Breakdown’, has barely managed to collect 135 crores worldwide compared to a budget of approximately 250 crores.

This is Ajith Kumar’s first major box office failure since ‘Valimai’, which had released in early 2022. However, the failure of ‘Vidaamuyarchi’ has only made matters worse for Kollywood, which is struggling to get a major commercial success since 2023.

Out of 241 films, just 18 managed to emerge as commercially successful, while 223 Tamil films flopped, incurring a loss of more than 1000 crores for Tamil cinema.
