The actor cum director’s iconic classic ‘Kantara’ has won both the National Film for Best Popular Film providing Wholesome Entertainment, as well as the National Award for Best Actor for Rishab Shetty.
The actor has opened up once again on the OTT tussle, and why Kannada movies find it tougher to get an OTT platform, in comparison to other movies.
According to Rishab Shetty, most OTT platforms do not buy Kannada content. The makers are forced to upload their films on YouTube, but the end results are peanuts. According to Rishab Shetty, the makers don’t even get the recovery amount from the revenues generated through YouTube.
However, Rishab Shetty wasn’t ready to accept that, and decided to let the film’s success do the talking. Ultimately, due to the huge revenues reaped by ‘Kantara’, several OTT platforms fought to secure the post theatrical rights of this movie.
However, Rishab Shetty believes that this is not his success alone. Every crew member of this movie deserves equal appreciation for their efforts in making this film a success alone. Made on a mere budget of 16 crores, Kantara earned more than 400 crores worldwide, making it an All Time Blockbuster. Rishab Shetty is now working on its prequel, wherein he shall explore the legends of Panjurli and Guliga Deva.
