Bollywood has been exploring several genres of films. One such is highlighting the nature crisis due to human deeds from drought to water crisis to diminishing of villages. The films promote awareness of saving the resources that nature has provided. Here is the list of films about conservation of the natural resources.
The film Kadvi Hawa is about the true incident of Bundelkhand’s drought and diminishing villages from Odisha and the Chambal region. The film shows what climate change has done to the lives. These are human acts. If natural resources were used wisely, this would not have happened. The film shows a farmer Hedu and a loan recovery agent Gunu. He fails to pay the money back and is in debt. They cannot grow sufficient crops due to drought. His son goes into depression and several other tough incidents occur.
The film Manjhi is about a man who carves his way through rocky mountains. Mountains are one of the natural resources. His wife one day dies after slipping from the mountain. She was pregnant at that time. People of that village whenever in need had to cross the mountain through that natural region be it for medical reasons or any other. He, therefore, decides to cut the rocks and carve a pathway through that mountain. He did this for twenty-two years. Thus, he is termed as the mountain man. Later he dies of gallbladder cancer.
The film Paani is about making a village independent of water. Addinath lives in a village that is hit by drought. A powerful man exploits poor people in exchange for water. Water is shown becoming an economic status. The water fight thrives along with other romantic twists and fighting the goons. The film is based on a novel named Blue Covenant: The Global Water Crisis and the Coming Battle for the Right to Water by Maude Barlow.
The film Jal is about a man who can find water in the desert. Bakka is special as he can locate water in the desert. Thus, conserving natural resources. The film highlights water scarcity and talks about the hardships faced by the people of that village. It also portrays the problems of human relationships and unity. The story is about the village of Kutch. A European researcher when visits the village, he finds that the flamingo chicks are dying due to the salinity of the water. They unite and solve the problem with the government.
The film Peepli Live is about the farmers who take their lives. Natha is a farmer from Peepli village. He is poor and struggles to feed his family. But Natha is an alcoholic. Due to his addiction, he leaves his family famished. He is in debt. He along with his brother decides to commit suicide. The farmer’s threat to end life attracts politicians and media to discuss their village’s worst condition of depleting natural resources.
The film Kaun Kitney Pani Mein is about two rival villages divided by castes. The film shows the struggle of the widows to avail water in the village. It shows two villages. In one of them lives the upper caste, and in the other where the lower caste resides. In the former, the people are not productive, and in the latter, people are just the opposite. Due to this, Upri faces a water crisis, and Bairi does not. Later, after a series of incidents, the two villages unite. Thus, conservation of natural resources plays a vital role.
The film Sherni is about wildlife conservation. A man-eating tigress is being hunted down and contained in a distant community by a forest officer. The MLA politicizes the situation by hiring a hunter to kill the tigress. Vidya prefers to catch the tigress. The tigress is killed by the hunter, but the villagers discover the cubs hidden beneath a log of wood and let Vidya know. This saves the Cubs.
The film Mera Gaon Mera Desh is about saving the village. Ajit, a small-time thief, is arrested by Havaldar Major Jaswant Singh and given a six-month prison term. After he is finished speaking, Jaswant asks Ajit for assistance with his farming tasks. As Ajit and Anju develop a romantic relationship, Ajit decides to confront Jabbar Singh, a dacoit who is terrorizing the neighborhood. Jabbar kidnaps Anju as vengeance, telling Ajit to show up unarmed. Ajit complies with these directives, but when he arrives at Jabbar's hideout, he too is taken prisoner and is at the mercy of Jabbar and Munni, whom Ajit has disdained. Ajit's future must now be decided by Munni.
The film The Elephant Whispers is about elephant conservation. An indigenous couple named Bomman and Bellie is entrusted with caring for an orphaned baby Indian elephant named Raghu in the novel The Elephant Whisperers. They go to tremendous lengths to make sure Raghu lives and develops into a healthy youngster. They eventually must give up Raghu and adopt another elephant named Ammukutty. The documentary investigates the life of the tribal people living in harmony with nature and shows the natural splendor of the Mudumalai National Park, which is located on the border of the Indian states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, it displays Indian culture and environmental preservation traditions.
The film Junglee is about the fight for the conservation of elephants. As a result of hunters slaughtering elephants for their tusks, Dipankar Nair's Elephant Sanctuary is in trouble. Bhola and Didi are visited by Raj, but Bhola is killed by Keshav for his tusks. Raj battles the cops and frees himself after Didi pulls the window out with Shankara and Meera. The cops unjustly accuse and frame Raj. It is also made known that Dev is with the hunters. At a factory where Shankara is held, everyone arrives. Raj murders the bodyguards and hunters. When Dipankar Nair's final message is shown three months later, it states that elephants are murdered every fifteen minutes for tusks.
