‘Emergency’ is based on the tumultuous life of Indira Gandhi as the Prime Minister of India, including the Emergency imposed by her. The movie is written, produced and directed by Kangana Ranaut, who is also the main lead, i.e. PM Indira Gandhi.

After multiple delays, ‘Emergency’ was initially to release on 14 June 2024. However, due to the impending clash with ‘Chandu Champion’ and the Tamil blockbuster ‘Maharaja’, the film was delayed to 6 September 2025, only to be further delayed by the Censor Board’s refusal to give clearance to this movie over the the depiction of the Khalistani issue.

However, if ‘Emergency’ manages to make it to 17 January, it will have an uphill battle to box office glory, since the film is sandwiched between two major clashes.
