We have people who switch careers and follow their dreams but there are very few who actually get to make a mark and live by the quantum of the sacrifice made. Abhay Jodhpurkar is one such fellow who has made it big in the entertainment industry because of the interests that he had. A boy from the small town of ‘Sendhwa’ in ‘Madhya Pradesh’ who hails from a family with close relations to the classical music, Abhay always had an interest in art and music but could never make up his mind if he actually wanted to take them up as a career option.
Born in a middle-class family, Abhay’s obvious career choice became being an engineer. He did his Engineering from ‘SRM University’, ‘Chennai’ and it was here that he took up his interest in music seriously. Abhay says that he was as a kid, equally interested in arts, music, dance, and sports but over time he realized that he found the maximum enjoyment in music. Coming to SRM brought him in touch with the ‘KM Music Conservatory’ in the second year of his course.
He says that having cracked an engineering exam already, he felt that he was in a safe spot and hence could pursue his interest in music. The fact that ‘A. R. Rahman’ was the principal of this institute further added to his resolve of joining since he felt that he would have the capacity to get adequate guidance. He says that Rahman had heard him sing a ‘Qawwali’ at the institute’s annual function and was so impressed that he started calling him for singing Sufi devotional songs.
He used to guide Abhay all the way through the recording and his progress was so good that he finally offered him ‘Moongil Thottam’. Abhay adds that though many people do not know, he is actually a trained ‘Qawwali’ singer too. However, for Abhay, music is not just it. He says that he has some good music projects lined up which he would soon be starting with. Courtesy his good looks, Abhay has got some acting projects too but he says that he is no hurry to be in front of the camera this soon.
He says that right now he is brushing up his dancing skills and learning Bollywood and Freestyle. We asked if he was prepping up for his Bollywood stint to which he said that dance would be his way of taking a break from his usual work and for now Bollywood can wait. We wish Abhay all the very best for his career.
