Divakar Subramaniam is an Indian music composer who mainly works in Tamil films. He particularly hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Apart from music composition, Divakar is also a percussionist and researcher. He graduated with a Bachelor of Zoology from the University of Madras in 1991. After that, he pursued post-graduation in advanced music production from the University of South Wales and took a PhD in Indian Film Music. He is the first South Indian music composer to receive a scholarship in music production. He started as a composer in 1996 and composed music for various feature films, radio and television commercials, documentaries and corporate films and animation. In 2007, he worked as a part-time lecturer at the University of Glamorgan, Cardiff, United Kingdom, where he used to teach subjects like audio engineering, creative music technology, audio mixing and sound for moving images.
He organized music concerts in the United States, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, and Germany. He also collaborated on his music concert with a Sri Lankan musician. and United Nations. Divakar is also a member of the British Forum of Ethnomusicology. He is also the founder and academic director of the School of Indian Film Music in 2012. Divakar has composd music for many Tamil movies, including Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, released in 2022, Kannula Kassa Kattapa in 2016 and The Big Day in 2007. He has worked for more than 100 commercials in 13 years in the Indian Advertising industry.
