Alphonsa is a well-known actress and item song dancer in a South Indian movies. She has predominantly worked in Tamil and Telugu cinema. She was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. She has acted in several films mainly in a supporting and cameo roles. She started her career with the film Baashha starring Rajinikanth, which was released in 1995. For almost a decade she continued playing supporting roles in several movies like Pudhayal, Ratchagan, Subhakankshalu, Periya Manushan, Cheran Chozan Pandian, Thaayin Manikodi, Rajasthan, Kaama, Sivan, Thirupathi Ezhumalai Venkatesa, Narasimhan, Badri, Maa Pelliki Randi, Panchathantiram, Kadhal Sadugudu, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, Madirasi. In the movie Panchathantiram, she got the opportunity to work along with legendary actor Kamal Hassan.

She has also acted in B-grade film Paruva Mazhai. Her brother, Robert is a well-known choreographer and actor in south Indian film industry. Alfonsa has a daughter from her first marriage with Noble. After the divorce, she lived in a live-in relationship with actor Vinod for two years. She got into a controversy when his partner Vinod committed suicide in her apartment in Chennai. Vinod's family filed a legal complaint against Alphonsa and her younger brother Robert, alleged them as a suspect for their involvement in Vinod's death. Police interrogated her under suspicion.
However, there was no proof found against them and they were discharged from this case. With all these incidents and allegations, Alphonsa got into depression and she then attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills. She was admitted to Vadapalai Vijaya Hospital and somehow she was saved.
Later Alphonsa came into media and revealed that Vinod himself was in depression. He was working in a film Kavasam, which was supposed to be produced by Tamil actor Murali. This movie was put on hold by the producer due to financial issues and this became the sole reason for his suicide. He felt shattered and hopeless for not being able to make his impact in the film industry as an actor, which led him to commit suicide.
