Vijay Babu is a popular South Indian actor, who has appeared mostly in Tamil and Telugu films. His native place is Kalahasthi in Andhra Pradesh. He joined the film institute in Chennai to learn acting in the year 1975 along with Rajini, Chiranjeevi and Bhanu Chander. He is in the film industry for the past 4 decades.

Initially Vijay Babu was not interested in acting, but his friend motivated him to act in the cinema. Without getting the consent of his parents, Vijay Babu came to Chennai along with his friend to attend the interview. He was interviewed by popular director Balachander and Vijay Babu passed in the interview. After joining the course, he learnt everything perfectly for the whole two years. He made his debut in the movie Oru Veedu Oru Ulagam. He was paired with Shoba.

During his shoot, he does not know Tamil well; he was supported by Delhi Ganesh in learning the dialogues. His next movie was Oru Vidukathai Oru Thodar Kadhai, directed by Rajasekar. He got good recognition in his initial movies itself. Vijay Babu also acted with Sivaji Ganesan and Rajini Kanth in the movie Polladhavan, as their brother. In this movie, Vijay Babu was paired with Ramya Krishnan. He acted in slightly a negative role in that movie.

During the year 1982, he was one among the top actors, who acted in the highest numbers of films. Vijay Babu never went at the back of any director or producer for acting chance. He has also produced two movies. One is a Telugu movie and another one is a Tamil movie called Eswari, with Anand Babu and Gouthami in the lead. He was away from the cinema industry for five years. After a few years, he was requested by his friend Tamil Mani to act in his production. It was the serial Mangai. After that, he worked in many Telugu serials and Tamil serials.

Almost, he worked in serials for ten years. His son Ramana is also acting in the films as a hero and as a villain in Tamil and Telugu film industry.
