Plot
Akilan is an inspector of police. He is on leave due to his injury while chasing the criminals. During this period, a series of suicides happen in public. People are committing suicide by stabbing themselves in public, which leaves the same mark on their bodies. While investigating the cases, Akilan and Sumanth, his investigation partner, find out that all those people are chess players. Soon, Akilan rushes to find the connection between these deaths, which leads him to deal with Rudran, a psychiatrist, James, an entrepreneur, and Martin, James’ son. Why did these deaths happen? The rest of the story follows it.
Star Performance
Shaam performed his role well as Akilan. Niranjani gets some screen time, but does not get a significant role. Nizhalgal Ravi’s performance is decent. Ranjith should have performed better.
Analysis
The first half has character establishments, the mysterious deaths, and investigation. The second half has the psychiatrist’s flashback. It is too lengthy. The victims who commit suicide in public don’t have any proper explanations that they have trialled the same. Though the mystery is explained in the second half, it doesn’t give any solid impression. The BGM should’ve been better. The visuals are quite decent, and the editing should’ve been better in the second half.

Asthram may have a different script, but the making is not very impressive. It can be watched once for the performances of the lead actors!
