Ramkumar was born on December 3, 1968. His place of birth is Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. Ramkumar's mother's name is Sunanda Nagaraj. Ramkumar was an avid movie buff in his childhood. Ramkumar is an Indian actor and producer working in Kannada films, who made his debut in Peraala's 1990 action film Aavesha co-starring Shankar Nag, Geetha, and Bhavya. The film was a big success.

He did not fail to impress in his next broadcast Muthina Haara, his first war film, by Rajendra Singh Babu. He was married in 2006 to Poornima Rajkumar. She was the daughter of Rajkumar, who is a successful actor in Kannada cinema. Poornima has just acted in one film (Premada Kanike) with her father. He has two kids, Dhirren Rajkumar and Dhanya Rajkumar. Ramkumar did the film Gejje Naada in a lead role opposite newcomer Shwetha in 1993. This film was a blockbuster.

Poorna Satya did not get an adequate response and turned out to be a failure. But Kavya, in 1995, gained success and was appreciated. In 1999, he worked in the multi-starrer films Snehaloka and Habba, and both the films were successful. Later in 2006, Ram Kumar became a producer. He bought out a movie on his wife's name- Pandavaru. His film Pandavaru hit the theatre. Pandava was a remake of the Hindi film Hulchul. Pandava had many skilled actors cast in it yet it was not a blockbuster. He also worked in Navashakti Vaibhava in 2008, Jodi no. 1 in 2009, Sri Naga Shakthi, in 2011.
