Na Kamarasan was an Indian poet belonging to Tamil Nadu. He was born in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu in the year 1942. He was an amazing poet and a master of writing free verse. He also wrote lyrics to songs for various Tamil movies. He wrote various socialist poems with themes revolving around the political scenario of the country. He was a modern poet who wrote about unconventional subjects such as Transgender, in his book Karuppu malargal which is taught at Oxford University. He started writing when he was in school and used to participate in various competitions. He completed his post-graduation and started teaching Tamil at Uttampalayam Haji Chete Rauthar Houthiya College. He started his career as a lyricist in the film industry due to his acquaintance with the M.G.R., the renowned actor and politician.
He gave lyrics to the songs in movies like Kaakki Sattai (1985), Nallavanukku Nallavan (1984), and Thanga Magan (1983). It was due to his influence that he became the Deputy Chairman of the Khadar Board and later the Secretary of the State Union and State Literary Union. He was also a member of the Tamil Nadu lyal Music and Drama Society. His poetry is a part of the curriculum at a Government Institution in Tamil Nadu. He was a pivotal figure in the Vanambadi Literary Movement. The first set of his poems that was published was Suryagandhi. His other poems include Taj Mahalum rotti thundum, Saharavai thaandaadha ottagangal, and Kagidha pookkal among others. He was married to Logamani and had two children – a son and a daughter. He died in 2017, due to organ failure.
