His career started with the movie, “Nayagan,” as an associate to Mani Ratnam, the maverick director. In 1988 Subash made a script and directed a film titled “Kaliyugam” featuring “Prabhu” in the lead. Although the film was not a super hit, it showcased the talent of Subash. His second directorial venture with “Vijayakanth” is “Chathriyan.” The film that also has “Revathi,” “Vijayakumar” and Bhanupriya was a super duper hit. In fact, Chathriyan gave a good identity to Vijayakanth. Later Subash worked on films like Ayul Kaidhi, Uthama Purushan and Vaakkumoolam. All these films were made at regular intervals. Subash hadn’t limited his talents in a genre. While his Chathriyan was a complete action entertainer with family sentiments, Uthama Purushan was a comedy caper; yet it had something to do with sentiments. One of his best films is Pavithra, featured by Radhika Sarathkumar, Ajith Kumar, “Keerthana” and “Nassar.” The film identified Ajith to the Tamil audiences. Radhika’s performance as a childless middle-aged mother was highly appreciated in Pavithra. Later, Subash directed a cop thriller Abhimanyu with “R Parthiepan,” which turned out to be a hit film in the career of the hero. Subash’s blockbusters Ninaivirukkum Varai and Aezhayin Sirippil had impressed the audiences and had proved the versatility of Prabhu Deva. Subash’s last Tamil film is with Prabhu Deva, Jyothika Saravanan, Raju Sundaram and Nagendra Prasad, titled 123. He had also provided scripts to a lot of Hindi films like “Sunday,” Chennai Express, “Dilwale” and “Housefull 3.” Subash wanted to do a film with “Vivek” as the hero. He even named the film as Enakkenna Korachal. But, it didn’t materialize. Similarly, one of his films with Arjun Sarja and the other with Prabhu and Ramya Krishnan failed to start. Subash has worked with Ajith and Prabhu in two films each and with Prabhu Deva in four films. Due to the kidney failure, Subash died in Chennai SRM Hospital on 23rd November 2016.
