S.V. Venkataraman

Sozhavanthan Varadharajan Venkatraman (aka SVV) was an Indian actor, singer, and music director active in the Indian film industry from 1938 to the 1970s. He was born on April 25, 1911, in Ayangpalayam, Madras Presidency, British India. Venkatraman wrote music for the M.S. Subbulakshmi-starring film Meera. Additionally, he has written a piece for more than 200 films in Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu. Sozhavanthan Varadharajan Venkatraman was born on April 25, 1911, to Varadharajan Iyer and Lakshmi Ammal. His father died when he was three years old, leaving his uncle responsible for his upbringing. He showed musical talent early and graduated from school in the fourth grade. To pursue his musical passion, he went to Cinta Drippet in Madras. The troupe's master heard him singing there and offered Venkatraman a stage actor/singer/musician position.

Venkatraman learned to play the harmonium but had no formal training in Carnatic music. Venkatraman said she acted in five films while in Madras.
