Radha Jayalakshmi

Radha and Jayalaksmi were born in 1932. Jayalakshmi’s full name is Vidushi Jayalakhsmi. They were a duo credited as Radha Jaylakshmi in the cine field. They are an Indian Carnatic musician and a playback singer for films between 1940s-1950s. They also became trained Carnatic music singers. This duo was awarded the 1981 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in Carnatic Music Vocal. This award was presented to the duo by the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, India’s National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama.

G. N. Balasubramaniam is a classical vocalist and teacher, under whose guidance Radha and Jayalakshmi learnt their classical vocal music. In Deivam, Kunnakkudi Vaidyanathan had both Radha and Jayalakshmi sing for Thiruchendooril Por Purindhu, a devotional song set in Thirthani. Since Jayalakshmi had passed away on the May 27, 2014, Radha has never sung another song again.
