T. R Omana is well-known actress who played mother roles in Malayalam movie industry. Even in her young age she started playing mother characters for the leading actors like , Sathyan, Thikkurushi, Madhu who were elder to her. She continued playing a mother to the next generation actors like Mohanlal and Mammooty. Now she plays grandmother to the new actors and says that she is happy with the roles she has done so far.

She was born to T.R Gopala Pillai and V.K Meenakshiyamma in 1941 January as the eldest of their 5 children in Alapuzha. She started acting in movies since 1951 as child artist. In 1965, the movie Puthradharmam was her first and last debut as the lead actress with a new comer and late versatile actor Thikkurushi. She has acted in more than 150 films in her tenure doing character roles.

She also dubbed for many actresses during that time. Her voice was rented to actress Sharada in all her movies; she also dubbed her voice to other actresses like Lilly Chakravarthi and Waheda Rahman in Malayalam. Apart from acting she is a very good Kathakali performer also. She has shared the stage with Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair, a well-known Kathakali artist in Kerala.

She has acted in many Malayalam serials; first serial was Manasi in Doordarshan. Manasi was the first ever mega serial in Malayalam, produced by Doordharshan and directed by . She was also part of the serial Kazcha in Surya Tv. Now she plays the role of Arjun’s grandmother of the Desai family in the serial Chandanamazha and its Tamil version Deivam Thanda Veedu. This serial is directed by Sujith Sunder and is currently the highest successfully running show in Asianet.
