Sreelatha Namboothiri is an Indian film actress well-recognized for her outstanding work in over 200 films in Malayalam cinema over a span of fifty years. She was born in KaruvattaAlappuzza, Kerala in the year 1951. Her father, Balakrishnan Nair was an army officer and her mother, Kamalammma was a music teacher in a government school. Her aunt, KumariThankam is a yesteryear actor in Malyalam movies. Sreelatha completed her schooling from Govt. Girls High school. She didn't pursue further studies as she started learning classical music from Dakshinamurthy.

She is renowned for her comicroles with AdoorBhasi. She acted with Adoor in many movies. She debuted in the film, "Khadeeja" at a young age of 16. However, she worked as a child artist in the movie, "Ashadeepam" which released in the year 1953. She has played many bold characters in the movies like Prasadam, Manishada, PuthiyaVelicham, andRajaneegandhi. She was also a playback singer. Her first song, Kakkakkarumbikale released in the year 1968. Then, Sreelatha sang more than 100 songs in Malayalam.

She got married to Late Dr. KaladiNamboothiri who was an Ayurveda doctor in 1979. They both acted together in the movie PapathinuMaranamilla.

After marriage, she converted into a Brahmin and became an Antharjanam. She halted her acting career after marriage for few years and settled in Thrissur. The couple were blessed with a son, Visakh and a daughter, Ganga. Her husband died in the year 2005. She made a comeback with the movie, Pathaka. Sreelatha has been active in films and on television since then and now it has been more than a half century. However, she had left singing in the early 80s. She makes public appearances at events.
