P. Jayachandran is a South Indian playback singer. Often, he is also affectionately called the Bhava Gayakan in the industry. This singer had worked in close collaboration with A R Rahman and even Illayaraja. With Illaryaraja, he had given numerous popular hits in Tamil movies, and he even sang a Hindi song for an A R Rahman’s composition. For a Malayalam movie’ Pennpada’ that released in 1975, a song that he had sung is considered to the first composition of A R Rahaman. This singer also had given his voice for music composer M S Viswanathan, who is also known as ‘Mellisai Mannar’ in Tamil cinema. In 1985. He is also one -time National award winner for playback in the year 1986. In Tamil cinema, he has rendered some soulful numbers such as ‘Raasaathi Unna‘ for the film like ‘Vaidhegi Kaathirundhaal’ and "Mayanginen Solla Thayanginen’ for film 'Naane Raja Naane Manthiri’. There are numerous melodious tune of Ilayaraja in which he has given his golden voice.
This playback singer can catch the notes of Mridangam, and this could be the reason why he was a favourite for Illaryaraja. He has mastered the art of playing Mridangam at a younger age. He cruised his way to perfection due to a support of his mother Subhadra Kunjamma, who was a great music lover, and her inspiration had paved the way for P Jayachandran to blossom into a playback artist in no time. . He has recorded songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi languages. He is of an opinion that nowadays songs in movies do not even suit the situation and has just become a venue for business. New generation songs will not remain in public hear and go off without creating any milestone in the music world. He also felt only better writers and musicians can pull back the music industry from this bad phase now.

Jeyachandran was honoured with a national award in 1986 for the Malayalam film
Sree Narayana Guru
. He won the Kerala State Award six times. In 1994, he won the Best Playback Singer award from the Tamilnadu government for the song Kathazham Kaattuvazhi from the movie Kizhakku Cheemayile. In 1997, he was honoured with Kalaimamani by the Tamilnadu government for his service to the Tamil music industry for 30 years. Jayachandran won the Asianet Film Awards twice, in 1999 and 2001. In 2021, he was honoured by Mazhavil Music Awards with the Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2022, he was honoured with 3 awards, including the K. Raghavan Master Foundation Award, the Geetham Sangeetham National Award, and the Sreekumaran Thampi Foundation Award.
In 2024, Jayachandran was suffering from some health issues. He was getting treatment for cancer. On 9th January 2025, he passed away while getting the treatment.
