Chithra is a worldwide known Indian soulful singer. Her original name is Krishnan Nair Shantakumari Chithra. Born in July 1963, Chithra has grown into a versatile singer who can sing all variants. Though she is a born Malayali, she sang in more than 13 languages so far, and the number is still going on. She is fondly known as Chinna Kuyil and Keralathinte Vanambadi, which translates into English as Little Nightingale and Nightingale of Kerala. This is due to her exceptionally melodious singing which has never known any boundaries. She made the excellent contribution to the Music industry in languages like Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Odia, Assamese, Hindi, Bengali, Sanskrit, Badaga, Tulu, Punjabi, and Urdu. She has a record of being able to record more than 25,000 songs and the number is still increasing. In addition to these recorded songs, she also participated in countless concerts.

K S Chithra is born in a family of singers and musicians. Her father Krishnan Nair was her first guru of music. Her elder sister K S Beena is well known as a playback singer. She is married to an Engineer Vijayashankar. She was blessed with a daughter Nandana, who was born as a specially privileged child. However, she died after drowning in a swimming pool at the age of 8 yrs. She has won 6 awards in National film awards, six awards in the south film fare awards, and Thirty-one state awards from various regions. She is awarded the "Padma Shri" in 2005. She holds the highest credit as a "First Indian singer to perform at the British Parliament." She had performed in various places across the globe, like Australia, Singapore, Washington, Canada and London. She had judged many TV reality shows which are music themed. She was given the best Female Judge award for a Telugu Reality music show called Super Singer. K S Chitra joined hands with Asianet Cable Vision, for a fundraising organization. This organization is called as Sneha Nandana, has been launched with a motive to help the musicians who have retired from singing but are finding financial hindrances in fighting health issues.

K.S. Chithra is a renowned playback singer of South Indian and Hindi films. She was born on 27 July,1963 in Kerala. She has provided vocals to over 25,000 songs in different languages like Telugu, Kannada, Oriya, Hindi, Malayalam, Arabic, Bengali, Punjabi, Urdu, Sinhalese, Sanskrit and Latin. She comes from a family of musicians and her vocal skills were acknowledged and cultivated from an early age by her father, late Krishnan Nair.

Her elder sister K.S. Beena is also a musical artist. Chithra completed her graduation and post-graduation from Kerala University and acquired her music training from Dr. K.Omanakutty. The Central Government nominated her for their National Talent Search Scholarship for 6 years between 1978/1984. She married Vijayashankar, who is an engineer and an industrialist. Her only daughter named Nandita died at the age of eight in a pool accident in Dubai in April,2011. She made her playback singing debut with Attahassam with the help of M.G. Radhakrishnan, a famous music director of Mollywood. Her first foray into singing was done in the Tamil film Industry with the movie Nee Thaanaa Antha Kuyil under the guidance of Ilaiyaraaja.

Apart from playback singing, she has also judged several singing reality TV progams such as Idea Star Singer and Josco Indian Voice. She has won six National Awards for best playback singer. She has won the hearts of millions in Hindi Music Industry and has recorded songs for many Hindi Movies like Virasat, Love, Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, Rangeela, Ashoka and several others. She is best remembered for her albums Piya Basanti and Sunset Point.

She has been felicitated with several other awards such as Kalaimamani Award, National Excellence Award in 2001, Lata Mangeshkar Award and several others. She also won Padma Shri in 2004.
