Mollywood will be witnessing another strike this year.
According to the recent reports, the Malayalam cinema exhibitors will refuse to screen movies on January 22 as a token protest against their demands not being met for years. This protest will extend to an indefinite strike, but this time, it’s not the producers exactly who are at fault.
The exhibitors have continuously requested the government to allow them some concessions, given that the maintenance of screens and the taxes have taken a toll on the exhibitors. However, the government led by CM Pinarayi Vijayan didn’t exactly agree to their demands.
Previously, the exhibitors had organized a strike over the issue of distribution of revenue with the producers last year. The strike was called off after the producers, followed by the Kerala Government, assured them of meeting most of their demands within the required time.
