Mohanlal previously worked with the director on the thriller drama Thudarum, which reunited the actor with Shobana after more than a decade.

Despite mixed reviews, the movie turned out to be a massive blockbuster. This was one of the two hits for Mohanlal in 2025, and Thudarum turned out to be one the highest grossing Malayalam movies of the year domestically, until Lokah : Chapter 1 – Chandra took over.

Mohanlal has a packed schedule this year. Apart from the much awaited Drishyam 3 and Patriot, the actor will also make a return to Bollywood with back to back extended cameos in Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan, both of whom will be directed by Priyadarshan. Mohanlal had last worked on a Hindi movie in 2012, when he starred in an extended cameo in Tezz, also directed by Priyadarshan.
