Sunny Stephen

Sunny Stephen is a versatile music director. Sunny is the beloved son of the Late Stephen and Thankamma, hailing from the Chaavara family of Kainakiri. He was born in Singapore on October 9, 1962. He is married to Lizzy, who is also a gifted composer. She has composed over a hundred Christian devotional hymns. Sunny Stephen’s daughter Alina has made a name for herself in the world of music by singing hits such as Atmavin Aazhangalil. Stephen had early exposure to music through church. He believes that he has inherited his musical talents from his mother. He spent years specializing in Carnatic music under the renowned K K Antony Master at Kala Bhavan. He anchored himself in Western music from the Trinity College of Music, London, and in Hindustani music from Trichur Ramdas. Through his deep knowledge of Western and Hindustani music, he has rendered our level of music appreciation a notch higher. He has been a crucial part of the music industry and has given music for 3600 songs. His song Karunam by Jayaraj won the state award for Best Music Direction. The song also won the Golden Peacock Award at the International Film Festival.

Stephen provided the Malayalam Industry with ghazals, festival songs, romantic songs and devotional lyrics. He has also provided music to TV serials, including the famous ones like Thapasya, Nirmala and Desana Pakshi. Popular all-time hits like Uthradapooviliyil, Mohana Raga Tharangam and Adikkarin Manchal were composed by Stephen. He was also chosen for the Film Critics Award for writing lyrics in the film Ee Snehatheerathu. Sunny is also an author. Two of Sunny Stephen’s research publications are One Heart, One World and Angels of Mercy. Vasudhayode, Aadima Sanchayam, and Priye Ninakkaye are his poetic anthologies. He is the founder and chairman of the World Peace Mission, publisher of World Peace Books.
