Kalai Anamika

Kalai Anamika was born in the Trivandrum district of Kerala. Like many others before her such as Asin and Nayanthara, Anamika too started her acting career in Kollywood owing to its immense opportunities, rather than trying her luck in Mollywood. So far Anamika has only performed in a single Tamil movie-which is titled as ‘Thamizh Selvanum Kalai Selviyum’.

She performs a prominent role in this 2014 film, which was directed by P.Pandian, who is also a first-timer in the field. The film falls into the common genre of Tamil films such as action/drama and romance. The monotony in the selection of genre, the narrow theme and the appearance of newcomers in both the cast and the crew made the movie a failure at the box office.

She has signed another film contract for a Malayalam film named ‘Puthu pol aval’ -which has not been officially announced. Hopefully, she will get recognition through her performance in her upcoming film. Kalai Anamika wasn’t her original name. Her birth name was Gopika. She had to change her name to Kalai Anamika on request of the director of her debut film- Mr P.Pandian.

She had to accept the new name since Gopika was already a well-known name in the industry. ‘Kalai’ was borrowed from her role in the film as Kalai Selvi. Her acceptance of the new name only goes on to show her flexibility and her commitment to her career.

Though her film wasn’t much of a success, she performed very well in the project and her mannerisms and etiquettes as a typical ‘Chennai girl’ gained attention. Amongst thousands of people competing for even a minor role in the Kollywood industry, securing a lead role in a movie only shows the amount of talent and potential that Anamika possesses as an actress.
