Vivek Harshan, born on 28 May, 1981 in Kochi , India, is an Indian film editor with a national award to his name for editing film '
Jigarthanda' in 2014. Harshan developed his interest for movies and editing in his college days where he met equally movie enthusiast friends, and it is then that he started taking things seriously. He learned to edit professionally through a course in Chennai and later assisted renowned editor exact==Anthony to whom he also dedicated his national award. He gives credit to his work to Anthony and says whatever knowledge he has of editing is what Anthony gave him.
In an interview with a national daily, he recounts his early days and hard work, where he pulled all-nighters or would have to travel to Kerala and come back daily while editing two movies together Oru Kal Oru Kannadi and 22 Female Kottayam. Harshan began his career as an editor for Malayalam movie
Big B. He has worked for over 17 movies now including movies like Siva Manasula sakthi, Sagar alias Jackie reloaded, Boss Engira Bhaskaran , '
Bachelor Party, '
Burma', Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga to name a few.
On winning National Award for Jiggarthanda, Harshan says that awards are important for editors as without them no one will even know that we have worked on this movie. With Karthik Subbaraj and
Bobby Simha movies grabbing the headlines, Harshan’s work in the film has not received the acclaim it should have, but as he agrees, it’s on account of the nature of his profession. Editing, he says, is an invisible job. Harshan is really focused and passionate about his work and prefers to be left alone while he is editing. He recently worked as the editor for the Tamil movie
Rajini Murugan. Though Harshan is dedicated to his work, he also dreams of directing films one day since he feels that directing a film would make his film journey complete.
