M.S.Mani, a renowned editor and film director of the Indian cinema, mainly ‘Malayalam’ movies, was born in the year 1926 in the month of November in the town of ‘Poojapura’, which is a place in ‘Thiruvananthapuram’. His parents are ‘Balambal’, and ‘Mrithyunjaya Ayyar’. He was married to ‘Seethamani’ and they had been blessed with a son, ‘Karthi’k. He started off his editing career with ‘Aashadeepam’, a 1953 ‘Malayalam’ movie. ‘G.R.Rao’ was the director and ‘TE Vasudevan’ had produced it. Stars like ‘ Gemini Ganesan’, ‘ Sathyan’, ‘ Padmini’, and ‘B.S.Saroja’ were the lead characters.

This picture was produced in ‘Tamil’ also in the name of ‘Asai Magan’. In 1954, he edited ‘Snehaseema’. ‘S.S.Rajan’ had directed the film and actors like ‘Padmini’, ‘S.P.Pillai’, ‘Sathyan’, ‘G.K.Pillai’, ‘Baby Lalitha’, and ‘PJ Cheriyan’ were cast. In the following years, he came up with many movies like ‘Koodappirappu’ in 1956, ‘Nairu Pidicha Pulivaalu’ in 1958, ‘Chathurangam’ in 1959, and ‘Jnaanasundari’ in 1961. In the year 1962, he edited two films, ‘Puthiya Aakaasham Puthiya Bhoomi’, and ‘Viyarppinte Vila’.

Both the films were a hit in their time. He was the editor in ‘Doctor’ and ‘Sathyabhaama’. Both these films had released in 1963. In 1972, he received an award for the Best Editor by Kerala State Film Awards for the film, ‘Maram’. It was produced and directed by ‘Yusuf Ali Kechery’. Actors like ‘K.P.A.C Lalitha’, ‘Jayabharathi’, ‘ Adoor Bhasi’, and ‘Prem Nazi’r were a part of this picture. In the year 1990, he received another award for Best Editing by The National Film Awards for the film, ‘Iyer The Great’. ‘R Mohan’ had produced and ‘ Bhadran’ had directed this psychological thriller movie, and ‘ Devan’, ‘ Geetha’, ‘ Shobana’, ‘ Mammootty’, and ‘ Sukumari’ played the roles of main characters. In 1992, he received yet another Best Editing award by The National Film Awards for the picture, ‘ Sargam’.

The couple, ‘Bhavani Hariharan’, and ‘Hariharan’ had written, directed, and produced this film. ‘ Rambha’, ‘ Urmila Unni’, ‘ Oduvil Unnikrishnan’, ‘ Vineeth’, ‘ Thilakan’, ‘Manoj K Jayan’, and ‘Neduvudi Venu’ were included in the cast. This film was also made in the ‘Tamil’ language with the name of ‘Sarigamalu’. It had also received an award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment by The National Film Awards. As a director, he had edited seven movies from 1962 till 1971.

These include ‘Puthiya Aakaasham Puthiya Bhoomi’, ‘Doctor’, ‘Thalirukal’, ‘Sathyabhaama’, ‘Jalakanyaka’, ‘Subaida’, and ‘Vilakkappetta Bandhangal’. He has been a very popular director and editor in the 1980s. On March 9, in the year 2008, he passed away due to a heart disease in a hospital (‘Shree Ramachandra Hospital’) in Chennai.

Prejish Prakash is an Indian editor. He has mostly worked in Malayalam films. He was born on February 24, 1986, in Pathanamthitta. His family follows Christianity religion. He completed his primary and secondary education from Mount Bethany EHSS and passed out from St Joseph College of Communication with a graduation degree in Multimedia. St Joseph College of Communication. He first bagged a job at Yes India vision Satellite Communication and began working there as a video editor. Currently, he is residing in Cochin, Kerala. He then commenced to assist Arun Kumar Aravind while he was working on an Akshay Kumar starring in Khatta Meetha and learned the nuances of film editing under his guidance. He then graduated to work with him as a poster and associate editor. He did so for around three years. In this period he worked on projects like Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Cocktail, Ee Adutha Kaalathu, Saint Dracula 3D, and Left Right Left. He made his solo debut in the year 2013, with the movie Philips and the monkey pen, which was a mammoth commercial success. After that, he worked on Vedivazhipadu, Raktharakshassu 3D, One by Two, which is a psychological thriller, and Avarude Raavukal. He has also edited documentary movies like After Life for director Sanjeev Sivan, and Water whatever for director Sudip Joshiy. While the former takes inspiration from a real-life inspired incident about two parents fighting a legal battle over the semen of their dead son so that they can produce an official heir for their property, the latter is a collection of three stories which revolves around the environmental issue of water scarcity. The latter has also traveled to various international film festivals. After honing his skills under Arun Kumar Aravind, he started to collaborate with him on projects where Arun donned the hat of a director. Apart from him, he has also edited movies for directors Rojin Thomas and Shanil Muhammed, Shanil Muhammed, Shambhu Purushothaman, Joshiy, R factor, and Rupesh Paul. His passion and love towards editing films prompted him to establish his firm called Culte Media & Entertainment Network at Cochin, which has all the latest technological facilities required for editing motion pictures. While Prejish manages and promotes it, Diana Prejish, Prejish's wife and an MBA student who has previously worked with several corporate companies, is its director. They have also employed a bunch of talented people to run the institution.


Vinod Sukumaran

Vinod Sukumaran is a renowned filmmaker of the Indian Cinema. He was born and brought up in the city of ‘Calicut’ in ‘Kerala’. In terms of education, he had learned ‘Theatre Arts’ in his hometown i.e, from ‘School of Drama’ which is situated in ‘Kerala’ State. After this, he had done his Master’s from ‘Film and Television Institute of India’ (FTII) in ‘Pune’, with a Diploma in ‘Film Making’. Film Editing was his major area of study. He has been an apprentice in Theatre. He has worked as the costume designer, director, scenic designer, make-up artist, actor, stage designer, and many others. Apart from these, he has worked with many groups who performed theater at the local level. He had been in close connection with many prominent artists and had worked with them. These include ‘B.V.Karanth’(‘Panja Ratram’), ‘S.Ramanujam’(‘Samatuavadi’), ‘Kavalam Narayana Panicker’(‘Mathavilasam’), and ‘Alaknanda Samarth’(‘Coriolanus’). After he had completed his Master’s from ‘FTII’, he started working with ‘Renu Saluja’ for four years. ‘Renu Saluja’ is a famous editor of Hindi films and has won many awards. ‘Vinod Sukumaran’ did the task of editing many films of the Bollywood. ‘Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin’, a film in which ‘Sudhir Mishra’ was the director and ‘Nirmal Pandey’, and ‘Tara Deshpande’ were in the main roles. ‘Pardes’, a musical movie, starring popular actors like ‘Amrish Puri’, ‘Alok Nath’, ‘Shahrukh Khan’, ‘Apurwa Agnihotri’, and ‘Mahima Choudhary’, was a blockbuster hit. ‘Subhash Ghai’ had been the director and producer of this picture. ‘Papa Kahte Hai’, a movie in which ‘Mahesh Bhatt’ had given his direction, is a very famous picture. He came up with a unique thought that themed films be of ninety seconds. This idea was greatly recognized and in 2003 and 2005, it was chosen for ‘Commonwealth Vision Award’. These two have worked on many other movies together. He made his first directorial debut in the feature film, ‘Haram’, a ‘Malayalam’ movie. With a genre of drama and romance, it was released in the year 2015. ‘Radhika Apte’ and ‘Fahadh Faasil’ were in the lead roles. ‘Saji Samuel’ and ‘P Sukumar’ had produced it. In 2002, for the movie ‘Diary of a Housewife’, he was awarded The Best First Film of a Director by The National Awards. It is a short picture in the ‘Malayalam’ language. His other accolades include Best Film Editor by ‘Matrabhumi’ Awards and Film Critic Association for the film, ‘Akale’, and for ‘Ore Kadal’, by Kerala State Awards.
