Uday Ananthan works in Malayalam film industry as a director and screenwriter. He was born in Thrissur, Kerala, India. His hometown is Kaipamangalam, India but currently lives in Kochi, India. He did his schooling from Don Bosco Irinjalakuda. His debut in the movie field was when he was in class 8 but never had any experience on stage in school, college or anywhere else. He tied the knot with Jenny on 30 August 2007. He was an advertising filmmaker and started at an early age of 19. He kept making ad films for 12 years and didn’t regret being a very famed celebrity. On 8 June 2007, “Pranayakalam “ his first feature movie got released. Pranayakalam (Season of love) is a Malayalam romantic film.
The story of Pranayakalam is very simple, but the way it was been presented by the debutant actor Ajmal Ameer and actress Vimala Raman was spell bounding. The narration and the simple message that they tried to convey to the audience made it noticeable but failed to be a blockbuster movie. This film even received awards: Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor, Kerala State Film Award for Best Lyrics. His second movie was a team work by ten well-known directors, including, Shankar Ramakrishnan, Shaji Kailas, Revati, Anwar Rasheed, Shyamaprasad, Anjali Menon, Lal Jose, B. Unnikrishnan, M. Padmakumar, and Uday Ananthan called “Kerala Café”. This Malayalam anthology film was been produced by Ranjith in 2009.
Malayalam cinema witnessed a history in making when for the first time ten directors came to form an alliance for a cinema. It was released on 29 October 2009. Uday Ananthan directed the fourth segment of the movie - “Mrityunjayam” which was written by
and had an amazing cast of 5 actors - Thilakan,
. The story had mystery, suspense, a little romance, and straightforward. A mysterious factor added a cherry on top. It received great reviews from audience and critics. When asked in an interview if the segment was somehow been connected to the Mrityunjayam of 1408, he replied- “Mrityunjayam was no way related to 1408 but was actually based on a short story made by Satyajit Ray”.
Though he made a film with the supernatural element, he isn’t a believer of that. He received Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema Award (NETPAC Awards) for his fantastic work in Kerala Café. He became a screenwriter for his recently released movie “
” featuring Mammootty and

. But the film failed to receive critical acclaim as it was expressed to be very gloomy and depressing. He is looking forward to becoming a professional filmmaker but keeps making commercial films. He also wants to create a great impact with his academic films.
