Rajeev Taranath, an Indian professional musician who plays the sarod, was born on October 17, 1932. Ali Akbar Khan's student is Taranath. His father, Pandit Taranath, gave him his first vocal music training. When he was nine years old, he performed in front of an audience for the first time. In his teenage years, Rajeev served for All India Radio. His performances skillfully combine the depth and discipline of Hindustani classical music with creative inspiration and emotional intensity. He is a renowned student of Maestro Ali Akbar Khan. From 1995 until 2005, he was also the director of the Indian music program at the California Institute of the Arts World Music Division. He is presently a resident and professor in Mysore, Karnataka.
