Born in Karnataka, Niveditha, popularly known as Smitha, is an Indian film artist who chiefly appears in Kannada movies. She is the daughter of Lakshmi and Jagadish, who worked in Commercial Taxes as a Deputy Commissioner. She completed her school education in Chikmagalur. She did her studies at the Marimallappa High School and finished her pre-university course at the Marimallappa College in Mysore.

Smitha as a pupil was a National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadet and referred herself as a Tomboy.
