Rakesh Bedi along with Staish Shah can be termed as the pioneer of comedy in the Indian TV industry. They both acted in ‘
Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’ the epic comedy serial aired on 1984 in good old Doordarshan. Born in
New Delhi to Punjabi parents Raja (as he is popularly known as) always wanted to become an actor and started doing theater from an early age.
Rakesh Bedi started his acting career in 1979 in movie ‘Hamare Tumhare’ where he played the character ‘
Sunil’ and from there his unstoppable journey started. His big break came in the form of Sai Paranjpye ‘Katha’ a story of 3 wanton friends (Farookh Sheikh and Ravi Vaswani were other two) always looking for girls and their company.
The character ‘Omi’ was very simple, jovial and fun loving but has a strong libido. People still fondly remember the role played by him. Who can forget the role of ‘Dilruba Ji’ in Sriman Srimati, the Lydian husband of actress Prema Ji (played by Archana Pooran Singh)? It was played with such an innovation that later it became the benchmark for playing hen-pecked husband.
Another notable role he played was in
Yes Boss, the subservient employee trying to save his wife from the licentious boss (Played by
Asif Sheikh). God, it was played with such perfection that nobody will ever forget that. Rakesh Bedi contribution to the TV and Film industry can’t be ignored, and we wish him all the best for his future.
